Clarence C. Clendenen was the author of several books and articles on military and Mexican-American affairs. A 1920 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he earned his M.A. from Michigan State University and PhD in history from Stanford University. He served as a colonel in the Army Cavalry with the 1st, 5th, 7th, and 10th regiments.
